A: The first steps are installing Documatic from the Google Workspace Marketplace, opening Documatic while in a Google Doc™, and adding tags to the document. Or, rather than add your own tags, you can start by copying one of the sample templates, which already contains tags. See Getting started in the user guide for more detail.
A: A tag is placeholder text in your Google Doc™ which will be replaced by your inputs in Documatic. You can indicate text is a tag by wrapping it in single or double curly brace characters. Documatic supports three types of tags: text tags, content tags, and table tags. See tags in the user guide to learn more about each type.
A: This is easy to fix! You need to add a corresponding meta table somewhere in the document. A meta table is a normal Google Docs™ table with a single column and a copy of the content tag in the topmost row.
Step by step instructions:
Copy and paste this content tag into your document: {{some-example-tag}}
Then, in the top row of a single-column table, copy and paste the same text: {{some-example-tag}}
In subsequent rows of the single-column table, add different options of content you might want to insert in place of {{some-example-tag}}
The end result should look similar to the screenshot accompanying this FAQ (displayed above or to the left) . The meta table and content tag don't need to be adjacent. See Content tags in the user guide for more help.
A: Yes! Press the "sync" button in Documatic to reload your document's contents without losing unsubmitted work in the side panel. See Can I edit my document while using Documatic? in the user guide for more detail, including handling conflicts.
